Eagle River is a lovely town nestled against the Chugach National Forest, just a stones throw from Elemendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson. Eagle River is an easy commute from Anchorage and offers more spaciousness and wide-openess, and all of the ammenties of living in Anchorage. One of my favorites places to visit is the Eagle River Nature Center located at the end of Eagle River Road. The Center's slogan - "What you'll find at the end of the road" - truly defines the wonders of this nature preserve and national park.
The Eagle River is fed by an enormous glacier, which you can hike to from the nature center. There are several trails you can hike to from the Eagle River Nature Center including the Crow Pass trail which goes 26 miles to Girdwood and eventually conects to the Winner Creek Trail.
Just another gorgeous day at the Eagle River Nature Center
The City of Eagle River is a suburb of Anchorage and part of the Municipality of Anchorage. There are many activities throughout the year in Eagle River from the Highland Scottish Games in the Spring to being a part of the Iditarod checkpoints winter during the competition. During the Bear Paw festival many funny competitions get 100s gathered to see the weirdness - Dog & Owner Look-A-Like contest, Stinky Sneaker competition, and the Iditaduck race.
There are several areas which make up Eagle River: Chugiak, Peters Creek, Birchwood, Thunderbird Falls, and Eklutna. All together 30,000 or more make a diverse populus in Eagle River.
